Discipleship Training from The Navigators - Verses to Memorize
My wife and I recently finished taking a Navigators course in discipleship. Called the 2:7 Series, based on Colossians 2:7 - rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. (ESV) It is a great course and if you ever have a chance to take it, please do. You won't regret it.
In the first part of the series (Growing Strong), we memorize six verses. These verses are a great set of verses to begin verse memorization with because they cover a wide range of basic Christian belief and serve to give us or others strength and assurance when needed.
This is a great set of verses to memorize. And if you haven't already begun memorizing, why not start with these?
Memory Verses from Growing Strong:
Assurance of Salvation (1 John 5:11-12)
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (ESV)
Assurance of Answered Prayer (John 16:24)
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. (ESV)
Assurance of Victory (1 Corinthians 10:13)
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (ESV)
Assurance of Forgiveness (1 John 1:9)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (ESV)
Assurance of Guidance (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)
Faith (John 5:24)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (ESV)
Do you want a printable copy of these verses? If you have Microsoft Word and a printer that can print on both sides of the page (be sure to tell the printer to flip on long edge), you are in luck. While it is best to print these on card stock, they can be printed on regular paper as well. You can cut them up into individual Bible memory cards. (The preceding note apply to all "Memory Verse Card" documents on this page.) Since ten different memory verses can fit on a page, we've added 4 bonus ones which you can use or discard as you see fit.

Obedience to Christ:
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 ESV).

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV).
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8 ESV).
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 ESV).

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV).
That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3 ESV).

The third book in the Navigators 2:7 series is Bearing Fruit. For this semester, we memorize 12 verses based on the "Proclaiming Christ."

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23 ESV).

we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6 ESV).

Christ Paid the Penalty:
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ESV).

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (Romans 10:9-10 ESV).
