Christianity

Oct 2019-Jun 2020

(06/30/2020) How the Church In America Became a Follower of Society, Not a Leader.  Sad but true.

(06/30/2020) What Are You Going to Do When They Come for You?  Good question.  Far too many of us think it isn't going to happen.  But it will unless we start doing something about it now.

(06/30/2020) Why Rioters Will Eventually Turn Their Rage On Christianity If Not Stopped.  The author is 100% correct given that they have already done so.  And if we play nice, it will be a lot worse.  I don't mean we play nasty, I just mean we don't sit on our rears and just watch it happen.

(06/24/2020) America’s Jews and Christians are Failing the Test of Their Lives.  Yep.  We are generally silent over what is happening in our country for fear that the BLM crowd and antifas will come for us next.  For shame.

(06/11/2020) You Can Be A Christian, You Can Be A Marxist, But You Can’t Be Both.  No, you can't.  There are a lot of other things you can't be if you are a Christian, either, but that doesn't stop people from so claiming.

(06/03/2020) The Treason of the Clergy: ‘Woke’ Prelates Begging for Head-Pats From Arsonists and Looters.  I even notice a clergywoman claiming that Jesus would be joining the "protestors."

(06/02/2020) Trump Went To Church. The Rest Of The Country Must Follow — Now.  May God use these events to turn America back to him.

(06/02/2020) Unhinged Episcopal Bishop Calls in to CNN to Trash President Trump for Holding Bible without Her Permission — SAYS NOTHING ABOUT CRIMINALS WHO TORCHED CHURCH!  This is really sick.  She talks about the sacredness of Scripture and yet she and the Episcopal church feel free to throw away all sorts of Scripture they don't like.  There are plenty of women who take Scripture seriously.  It is a shame that most who are ordained place feminism and progressivism above Scripture.  UPDATES: An awful lot of people are abusing the faith for political purposes.  And it isn't the conservatives doing it.  DC ArchBishop Gregory Lashes Out at President Trump for Visiting John Paul II Shrine and Lies About Tear Gas Attacks on Protesters.  More: Pelosi Lectures President Trump to Help the Country Heal as She Clutches Bible, Refuses to Condemn Violent Rioters.  It is bad enough that we have bad things happening.  It is worse that we have people in power justifying those bad things.  And it is worse by far that we have people justifying those bad things in God's name

(05/27/2020) Liberal shift on sexuality primarily found among tiny Methodist subgroup.  One can hope, but even if it is a minority, I don't think it is "tiny."

(05/19/2020) Christian Apologist Ravi Zacharias Passes from Cancer at 74.  Tears shed, prayers said.  Much more here: Ravi Zacharias, 1946-2020

(05/09/2020) Atheist’s 50 Questions #16: ‘Why Don’t Christian Parents Hate Their Kids More?’  Of course, that isn't the actual question, but it might as well be.  The atheist thinks Christian parents are indoctrinating their kids rather than letting them decide for themselves.  He seems to think that he is not doing the exact same thing in the opposite direction.

(05/09/2020) The Seven Deadly Neuroses.  This is a really good article on the Seven Deadly Sins.

(04/18/2020) Learning To Pray For Your Enemies.  I've seen people write that such-and-such is not worth praying for.  Everyone is worth praying for.  I don't pray for Nancy Pelosi's health and that she continue to obstruct small business relief.  I pray for her health and that she turn her eyes to God and take her Catholicism seriously and not just use it as a political tool.  See how easy it can be to pray for your "enemies?"

(04/18/2020) ‘Do Not Put the Lord Your God to the Test’  Certainly God can do anything and we should have faith in him.  But that doesn't mean we should do stupid things just because God, in theory, could bail us out.

(04/14/2020) How's it going for the 'virtual' church?  Not bad.  And it is a lots easier to invite someone to virtual church than to physical.  Of course, it is also easier for the invitee to bail out.  Via her Greek class, my wife knows a pastor from a small church in Salt Lake City.  Normal attendance - 60. Last Sunday - 1500 virtual attendees.   Wow!

(04/12/2020) Trump in Easter Address: ‘I Ask All Americans to Pray.’

(04/10/2020) Coronavirus outbreak spurs record Bible purchases: ‘People are looking for hope.’  I hear that quite a few churches are having greater attendance online than they had in person.

(04/06/2020) ABC Host Asks Pence: Do You Talk To God About The People Who Die Because Of Your Inaction?  Isn't it interesting how "journalists" frame their questions by presenting as "fact" that which is not in evidence.

(03/28/2020) Are Evangelicals Responsible for the Spread of COVID-19 in America?  How can this be?  Because we don't "believe" in science.  We are science denialists.  This from people who believe that you are whatever "gender" you feel like.  But seriously, the evangelical ranks are full of genuine scientists.  This is just another slur on evangelicals the progressives make so that they can feel even better about themselves.  Lies are a flimsy foundation to build a worldview upon, but the truth will not only set you free, but it provides a firm foundation.

(03/24/2020) No Governor Northam, It Does Matter Who We Pray To.  The virus might not care who we pray to, but only the God of the Bible is capable of answering prayers.

(03/15/2020) Revival Or We Die.  True.  I pray for revival daily.  Join me.

(03/15/2020) Franklin Graham Thanks President Trump for National Day of Prayer.  Me, too.

(03/07/2020) Should We Just Write America Off as a Botched, Godless Experiment?  Nope.  America seems to have gone a long way towards abandoning God, but I doubt God has abandoned us.

(03/07/2020) Interview: ‘Made to Flourish’ Seeks to Help Churches Promote Spiritual, Social and Economic Flourishing.  There is no reason that churches can't do a better job of helping their flock succeed (in the broadest sense) in life.  This seems interesting, though the devil is often in the details.

(03/07/2020) 50 Questions for Christians #8: ‘Does the Complexity of Life Reveal an Intelligent Designer?’  One thing that persuades me outside of the science (modern genetics shows that DNA simply loses information over generations - it does not add new info.  This blows macro evolution out of the water.) is the nagging question of why are humans the only species that show significant intelligence, in particular the ability to reason?  Does it not seem that humans really are unique and designed, in some sense, in the image of God.  It is also amusing that those that reject evolution are accused of just inserting "God" wherever there are issues we cannot explain.  At the same time, the evolution crowd inserts "we just don't know exactly how, yet" when every issues like irreducible complexity that they cannot explain come up.  Toss in the fact that evolution is based entirely on the existence of beneficial mutations.  Outside of X-Men, can anyone point to a beneficial mutation in recorded history, much less one that was passed along to descendants?

(03/06/2020) Is God Abandoning America? No. America Is Abandoning God.  Which is why we need revival.

(03/06/2020) AOC says Right is 'weaponizing Scripture.'  Gee, in explaining how we are supposedly "weaponizing Scripture," AOC weaponizes Scripture.

(03/04/2020) Stop Giving Authority to Satan: You Are a Priest and King NOW!  This is Part 3 of an great interview - parts 1 & 2 are also available at the link.  Satan has successfully infiltrated many (most) of our institutions.  And we have let him do it.

(03/03/2020) Biblical Compassion Means We Shouldn’t Always Give Food to the Hungry.  Actually, the Bible is very clear on this.

(02/27/2020)  Family Second, Faith First.  Excellent article with a lot of good food for thought.

(02/21/2020) Christians, the Time Has Come To Put Ourselves on a Serious Wartime Footing.  True, but most don't see this.

(02/19/2020) Pastors rank issues facing them today.  Interesting.  This survey is of Protestant pastors, but otherwise does not seem limited.

(02/19/2020) Buttigieg Slams Trump and His Christian Supporters: Says President’s Conduct Not Compatible With Scripture.  I am really getting tired of being lectured on what it means to be a Christian by a homosexual who gets his spiritual direction (so he says) from his Episcopal priest rather than the Bible.

(02/17/2020)  Conservative grassroots movement aims to reclaim SBC.  Our SBC church is definitely not going to drift leftward, but is will be a very bad thing if the denomination does - and it has started to.  Critical Race Theory is a valid tool for interpreting Scripture?  What nonsense.  CRT isn't a valid tool for anything, much less anything to do with God's Word.

(02/10/2020) There Are Two Fathers: Which One Influences You?  There is the Father of Truth and there is the Father of Lies.  The problem is, the Father of Lies so often tells us exactly what we want to hear.  No wonder so many have been fooled into being led by him!

(01/18/2020)  America is Far More Christian Than We Realize.  And far less active than we should be.

(01/13/2020) NBC Host Chuck Todd Trashes Christians: They’re “Trained to Believe Fairy Tales” Like Noah’s Ark.  Rather than patting themselves on the back by imagining Christians to be blithering idiots, people like Chuck Todd should be asking themselves why Christians believe what they believe.

(01/13/2019) How To Get Closer To God If You Don’t Attend Church.  Good intentions, but not so good in practice.  Believers need to belong to a community of believers, and by far the best way to do that is to belong to a church.  Of course, if you are a non-Christian, I suppose this article has some value except for the fact that from a Christian's perspective, non-Christians need to be brought to Christ.  It isn't good enough to become "spiritual."  One of the best ways to do that is get them to start attending church.

(01/11/2020) How to Shield Your Kids From Toxic Internet Atheism.  One major challenge we face is that internet atheists simply know neither the Bible (except the occasional snippet) nor Christian doctrine.  Or history, either.  They assert lots of things to bolster their case.  The bulk of what they assert is false.  Sadly, far too many Christians are ill-equipped to to respond, leaving those false assertions unchallenged.  Christian apologetics is, sadly, a topic that tends to be ignored by most churches.

(01/10/2020) Lt. Col. Maginnis: 'Progressives Hate' Christians, Will Do to Us What Nazis Did on Kristallnacht.  On the one hand, he is getting carried away.  On the other, the Left sees Christianity as possibly their biggest obstacle.  Tame it and use it (see Mayor Pete), suppress it and punish it (see bakers, florists, etc.) and silence it (see inversion of First Amendment and "separation of church and state).

(01/09/2020) PK: 'Manhood never meant to be walked alone.'  I went to at least four Promise Keeper events back in the day.  They were great.  Too bad we can't fill stadiums all over the country.  I pray that this will change.

(01/04/2020) United Methodist Church Plans to Split over Same-Sex Marriage, Gay Clergy.  So the UMC is going to split into the traditionalists (those that uphold biblical teaching) and the modernists (who insist that Scripture conform to culture, at least LGBT culture).  I try to include in my daily prayers that Christians who attend a local church that does not preach the Bible leave and go do a church that does.  There are plenty of them.  I pray this happens with the Methodists - that the traditional version continues to preach the Bible and grows, and the LGBT version shrinks and ultimately passes away.

(12/28/2019) Rev. Graham: 'Biggest Threat' to U.S. is 'That We Turn Our Back on God.'  To a considerable degree, we already have turned our backs on God.  So I would phrase things differently: the greatest thing we can do for the USA is to turn back to God - revival!

(12/16/2019) Bishop Denounces Netflix as ‘Blasphemous’ over Gay Jesus.  I am not a fan of censorship, but I am a fan of consequences.  For far too long, we Christians have been letting others insult us and we let them do it without any consequences.  The result?  More of it.  We really need to push back.

(12/11/2019) Wisdom Begins With The Fear of God.  Yes, it does.  Where there is no God and hence no fear of God, there is no wisdom.  And such is the case with many  / most of our institutions of higher learning.

(12/11/2019) California Church Nativity Scene Has Holy Family Separated in Cages.  Sheesh.  How many "churches" have decided to pander to culture and go all political?  Far too many.

(12/09/2019) Where in U.S. do most generous practicing Christians live?  What is most interesting - and sad - is how New England has become positively un-Christian (in a relative sense).

(12/07/2019) The Left Screams 'Armageddon,' but Is Anyone Listening?  We've never had it so good in a material sense, and no, climate change is not going to doom us or even damage us.  But culturally, we are experiencing an "Armageddon" of sorts - a spiritual one.  America needs to turn back to God.  Pray for revival; start experiencing revival on a personal level.  Revival has to begin somewhere.

(12/06/2019) We Must Not Ignore Christian Persecution.  But we tend to.

(11/24/2019) Tell Us Something We Don’t Know: Christian Leader Franklin Graham Says There is “Demonic Origin” to Resistance to President Trump.  Given that I've concluded that the Democrats are the Party of Satan, I'm pretty sure that there is demonic influence involved.  It is certainly possible to be opposed to Trump without Satan's influence, but given all the lies involved on the part of many, Satan's tactics are definitely in heavy use.

(11/24/2019) Pope Francis Cites Fictional French Epic to Prove Christians Are Violent.  Francis is the first pope in my lifetime that I have not admired.

(11/22/2019) Let's be clear: What Pete Buttigieg preaches isn't Christianity.  I keep picking on the guy.  Why?  Because he has a very big soapbox, adoring fans in the media, and he is preaching a very false gospel.

(11/21/2019) Pete Buttigieg Twists Christianity: 'Salvation' Depends on Being 'Useful.'  Excellent article.  It not only criticizes Mayor Pete, it thoroughly explains salvation.  Note that Mayor Pete specifically said salvation depends on this.  He also claims that Christians who do not support his policy proposals are not good Christians and make Christianity look bad.

(11/21/2019) Mayor Pete Sits in Judgment of God.  I hate to pick on Mayor Pete, but I have never seen someone who claims to be a Christian misuse the Bible as much for political purposes. And I can never forget the Mayor Pete blames God for his lifestyle.  Is Mayor Pete even a Christian?  There is reason for concern and I pray for him now and then.  God will sort it out.

(11/20/2019) Study: ‘Intelligent People Find Religion Irrational.’ Here’s Why That Shouldn’t Bother You. (Part 1).  There are problems with the study, but pretend it is correct.  People who consider themselves to be highly intelligent are bound to be more inclined to think of themselves, in a sense, as smarter than God.  They are smart, why do they need God?  You know the old saying: true wisdom is recognizing how little you know.  One can be highly intelligent, but not necessarily wise.  In fact, much of the resistance to self-proclaimed "elites" (highly intelligent) is that they take their genuine expertise in one area and think it qualifies them to be an expert in other areas.  My main counter to the study is that it is meaningless.  Should Christians defer to the non-Christian views of "highly intelligent" people?  Scads of highly intelligent people are Christian, as was Isaac Newton, possibly the most intelligent man who ever lived.

(11/18/2019) Helping People Connect With God in an Increasingly Godless Society.  Churches that actually preach the Bible need to be a lot more bold in our witness.

(11/17/2019) Gov. Greg Abbott Praises Kanye West for Sunday Service at Houston Jail.  If anyone with a microphone uses it to promote the gospel, I am all for it.

(11/14/2019) A song just a song if it's just feel-good music.  Some modern church music is pretty decent theologically speaking, but the older hymns are full of much deeper and sound theology.  I speak this as a hymn guy.

(11/11/2019) Why Pete Buttigieg Is The Most Destructive Candidate For Christianity.  Mayor Pete preaches a false gospel.  It is a destructive gospel, as well.  It is bad for the individual, for the church, for Christianity and for the nation.

(11/09/2019) Lesbian Priest Promotes Abortionists as ‘Saints’.  How many pastors and priests are not actually Christian?  How many denominations?  How many who consider the selves "Christian" are, in fact, lost?  We need to bring Christ to the lost inside the church as well as the lost outside.

(11/04/2019) Over 1000 People Profess Jesus Is King at Kanye Concert in Baton Rouge.  We'll see how this holds up, but until something happens to prove otherwise, I am a big fan of Kanye, the new Christian.

(11/04/2019) The Holy Spirit — Can’t We All Just Get Along?  I am not a charismatic, yet tongues and their interpretations are listed as spiritual gifts.  I have no problem with the form of expressing the "anointing" of the Holy Spirit as long as what is being communicated is consistent with Scripture.   There are some churches and denominations that seem to have abandoned Scripture as their guide.  But rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, we need to pray for their revival and return to Christ and the Bible.  There are many true Christians going to those churches.  Though I recommend individual Christians who attend such a church to leave and find a church that preaches the Bible, I do pray that those that remain somehow turn that church around.  We are supposedly one church, and we should not be judging and rejecting others based on the form of worship.  But we should be calling all churches that claim to be Christian to preach the Bible, not some form of cultural accommodation.  And as individual Christians, we need to focus on and spend time in Scripture and disciple others to do the same.  How can we have revival in America and in the world if we fight among ourselves and do not get ourselves and our local church back in alignment with God?

(11/03/2019) Spiritual But Not Religious.  This is an interesting article, as are the comments.  When people say they are spiritual but not religious, I believe that what they are really saying is that they are unwilling to make any kind of commitment, but they think they are hedging their bets by being "spiritual."  What I find a bit appalling is how many seem to be treating faith as something of no great consequence.

(10/29/2019) A Little Fire and Brimstone Please.  Far too many churches rarely, if ever, preach about sin and hell.  How can you preach a holy God without doing so?  You really can't.

(10/27/2019) Study: Regular church attendance boosts mental health.  Of course.

(10/26/2019) Why Faith is Key to Preserving Our Liberty.  And so it is.

(10/24/2109) Critical Race Theory – a bait-and-switch tactic infiltrating the Church.  Sadly, the big mucky-mucks at the SBC seem to have fallen for it.  Any time you start judging people and treating them on the basis of what they are rather than who they are, you are asking for trouble.  And it is totally non-biblical.

(10/15/2019) Is Cory Booker Misusing the Bible? Yes.  I'll be blunt - you cannot be biblical and be a progressive at the same time.  Sorry.  Whenever a progressive quotes the Bible, you know they are misusing it.

(10/12/2019) What is the ‘Fruit’ of the Evolving Faith Conference?  Jesus made it very clear that we bear fruit when we abide in him, he abides in us, and we obey his commands.  It seems that the "evolving faith" crowd has as very different view of what it means to bear fruit.  They seem to think that bearing fruit involves accepting "marginalized" people not merely for who they are but for what they do, no matter how the "what they do" may conflict with God's commands.  We are all sinners - and we all need to confess and repent of our sins.  But there is a bit of a problem when one is in denial concerning their sins.  The fundamental tenet of progressive theology is that hating the sin means hating the sinner (and faith is all about love), and besides, all sorts of stuff the Bible makes clear is sin, really isn't, so there is no need for confession and repentance.  Just live whatever lifestyle you want and talk a lot about love and you're good to go.  And be sure to call everyone who disagrees with you "haters" and "bigots."
