Have you ever been to the store looking for something and the clerk who is there to help just does not listen to you?
I went in looking for a sports coat one day and the very nice gentleman helping me kept showing me suits.
Nice looking suits, but not what I was after.
Have you and your spouse ever discussed something and you get distracted and did not hear a word they said? GUILTY!
Or perhaps you both nod your heads in agreement and then you head off to take action and your spouse says: “What are you doing? That is not what we agreed to do?” GUILTY
Perhaps you have taken your car in for maintenance with a car mechanic and you described in detail a noise or ping that your
vehicle was making. The mechanic says “Got it!” But when you come back to pick up your vehicle and pay the $500 to fix it, and that noise is STILL there.
Wouldn’t it be great if we all were great listeners!
What good are our attempts at communication without someone who listens?
Well I know someone who listens to us all! God listens to us! 2 Corinthians 6:16 says: “I will dwell in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be MY People.” (NASB) God listens. Doesn’t it give you comfort to know that you are listened to?!!!
Eugene Peterson puts it this way. "Everything we say, every groan, every murmur, every stammering attempt at
prayer." “We are listened to! We realize dignity… We acquire Hope!”
The Bible is is full of passages that tell us that God listens to us.
1 John 5:14 says "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.” (ESV)
Isaiah 65:24 "Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear." (ESV)
Psalm 18:6 "In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.” (ESV)
Romans 10:17. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (ESV)
My favorite is Psalm 18:6. “It has been said, when you are on your back, you can look up! David faced a crisis in which he felt doomed. Saul’s forces had hemmed him in and he was flat on his back. (see 1 Samuel 23:15) But David looked up and in his distress, time of need, he prayed. He called out to God for help and the Lord answered him from heaven.” (Bible References)
We need to understand that God is there….he hears everything. We can call out to Him and he will hear us. What a wonderful assurance! There is a song, Have Faith in God (B.B. McKinney) that reminds us that God is there for us, always!
Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely. He sees and knows all the way you have trod; Never alone are the least of His children; Have faith in God, have faith in God. Have faith in God when your prayers are unanswered, Your earnest plea He will never forget; Wait on the lord, trust His word and be patient, Have faith in God. He'll answer yet. Have faith in God in your pain and your sorrow, His heart is touched with your grief and despair; Cast all your cares and your burdens upon Him, And leave them there, oh, leave them there. Have faith in God though all else fall about you; Have faith in God, He provides for His own: He cannot fail though all kingdoms shall perish. He rules. He reigns upon His throne. Refrain: Have faith in God, He's on His throne, Have faith in God, He watches over His own; He cannot fail, He must prevail, Have faith in God, Have faith in God.
